AccountKit vs MYOB AE and AO
Leave MYOB AE and keep one place to work
At 8am you open AE and the client, the job and the return are all there. You can keep that on Xero. AccountKit puts your jobs, compliance tools, Outlook and SharePoint in one view of each client.
- Checked against the vendors’ own pages on 2 October 2026

Why firms move
Firms leave MYOB AE for how they want to work, not because they have to.
The worry we hear most is that you’ve watched another firm move to Xero and end up with five tabs, three logins and nobody sure which file is current. This is how AccountKit stops that happening to you.
01One screen
You still start every job from one screen.
AccountKit sits over Xero and XPM, so the client’s jobs, tools, emails and files open from the same place.
See how it fits together02Tax in the job
The tools you need sit inside the job, the way tax does in AE.
The Xero ledger, your compliance tools and the client’s emails are linked from each step, so the work feels familiar on day one.
See workflow03Your files
Your files stay on your Microsoft setup, where your team already looks.
AccountKit links SharePoint or OneDrive folders to each client with their permissions as they are, and files Outlook email to the client.
See the SharePoint integration04PDF editing
You edit PDFs without opening another program.
PDF editing is part of AccountKit’s Advanced DMS on the Professional and Practice plans.
See document management05One ledger
Year-end happens in the ledger your client already uses.
Work over Xero and you stop re-keying client data into a second ledger, while XPM and AccountKit keep the client record in step.

How it fits together
Each product does one part of the job, and you work from one
You work in AccountKit. Xero keeps the books, XPM keeps time and billing, and Xero Tax lodges. Everything else connects in.

MYOB AE and AO next to Xero, XPM and AccountKit, line by line
The right-hand column is three products working together. We’ve said where AccountKit stops and Xero takes over.
| What you’re weighing | MYOB AE and AO | Xero, XPM and AccountKit |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Windows servers and SQL Server in your office, or through MYOB-accredited hosting partners in Australia. MYOB doesn’t support running AE over a VPN; remote staff connect by Remote Desktop. | In the browser. Xero, XPM and AccountKit are cloud software, so there are no servers or SQL licences to run and remote staff log in like everyone else. |
| Tax and the ATO | A real strength. Tax is built in, with ATO pre-fill across more schedules each year. SMSF returns are prepared in AE. | Returns are prepared and lodged in Xero Tax, part of Xero Partner Hub. AccountKit doesn’t lodge; it runs the job around the return and keeps the client’s documents and correspondence with it. |
| Jobs, time and billing | MYOB Practice Manager covers clients, family groups, jobs, timesheets and billing. | XPM keeps time, billing and WIP. AccountKit runs workflow: status flows, work types, recurring templates and a daily plan for each person. Client details sync both ways and time syncs to XPM. |
| Client ledgers | Client Accounting and Statutory Reporter, inside the suite. | Clients’ books stay in Xero. AccountKit’s compliance tools (Division 7A, inter-entity loans, equipment finance and more) post their journals straight to Xero. |
| Documents | Document Manager keeps a file store on your own server. | AccountKit connects SharePoint, OneDrive, FYI, SuiteFiles or Google Workspace. Files stay where they are, with their permissions, and each client links to its folder. |
| PDF editing | PDF Manager, a separate desktop tool that saves into AE client records. | PDF editing is part of AccountKit’s Advanced DMS on the Professional and Practice plans. |
| MYOB’s own cloud route | MYOB Practice Compliance runs in the browser, and its tax module is included in the AE subscription. SMSF returns and client details still stay in AE, and client accounting is in early access. | Xero publishes a route off MYOB AE: a conversion toolbox for client ledgers, Xero Partner Consultants and certified Practice Studio Partners. |

Questions
What firms ask before leaving MYOB AE and AO
What are MYOB AE and AO?
MYOB AE (Accountants Enterprise) and its smaller sibling AO (Accountants Office) are MYOB’s Windows suites for accounting practices in Australia and New Zealand. They cover tax, Practice Manager (jobs, time and billing), client accounting, statutory reporting, assets and Document Manager, and run on the firm’s own servers or through MYOB’s hosting partners.
Is MYOB AE linked to the ATO?
Yes. AE and AO tax pulls ATO pre-fill across a growing list of schedules, which is one of the main reasons firms stay. MYOB’s 2026.0 release notes say firms that don’t install that release lose pre-fill from the end of August. On Xero, returns are prepared and lodged in Xero Tax.
Is MYOB AE being discontinued?
Not that we can find. As at 2 October 2026, MYOB hasn’t published an end date for AE, and it released AE 2026.0 in June 2026. MYOB’s own cloud route for AE firms is MYOB Practice Compliance. Firms that move to Xero and AccountKit usually do it because of how they want to work, not because of a deadline.
Does AccountKit prepare or lodge tax returns?
No. Returns are prepared and lodged in Xero Tax, which comes with Xero Partner Hub. AccountKit runs the work around them: the job, its steps, the client’s documents and correspondence, and compliance tools like Division 7A and inter-entity loans that post their journals to Xero.
Who moves our data out of MYOB AE?
Xero and its partners. Xero’s conversion toolbox moves client ledgers from MYOB AE into Xero, and its Partner Consulting team or a certified Practice Studio Partner can run the whole conversion. AccountKit doesn’t convert AE data. We set up AccountKit once your clients are in XPM.
Will our WIP, time history and past returns come across?
Xero doesn’t publish exactly which practice history moves, so ask your Xero consultant or partner before you set a date. Many firms also plan how they’ll keep read-only access to old records for the years they need them.
What happens to the files in MYOB Document Manager?
They need a new home before you switch. AccountKit doesn’t store your files: it connects to SharePoint, OneDrive, FYI, SuiteFiles or Google Workspace, keeps their permissions, and links each client to its folder. Firms that like an in-house Windows file system usually choose SharePoint.
Does AccountKit replace Xero Practice Manager?
No. XPM keeps your time, billing and WIP. AccountKit syncs client details both ways with XPM and sends time to it. AccountKit’s workflow jobs stay in AccountKit, which is where your team plans and runs the work.
What does AccountKit cost?
In Australia, plans start at AUD $55 a user a month (ex GST) with a five-user minimum, plus a one-off onboarding fee by plan. Team training is $330 an hour. Xero’s own products are priced separately: in Australia, Partner Hub plus Practice Management is free for Silver partners and above. Check the pricing page for your region.
