The name’s Master…Swag Master.
At least that’s what they call me around the office. You see, I’m a bit of a self-confessed expert when it comes to collecting merch. In a year at AccountKit, I’ve managed to get my hands on some awesome swag at conferences and events.
Then there are these TSheets socks that made me say, “OMG – these are the most comfortable socks I’ve ever worn!”:
Add to those the reusable coffee cups I’ve got spread between the office and home, endless pens, fidget spinners my kids love and loads of other goodies, and you could say I’m a swag aficionado.
With my expertise in the field and Xerocon just around the corner, I thought I’d take the time to share a few insights into what makes a great piece of swag.
Without further ado, I present to you my top tips for corporate merch that works.
Make it practical but unique
I love my pens, and if they write well I’ll use them all the time, but the fact is they’re a dime a dozen. The most effective freebies are things you can use in your day-to-day life that are also unique. The USB fan I’ve got on my desk is a perfect example – it keeps me cool at my desk and I use it a lot, but I’ve only got one of them so it’s memorable!
Make it wearable
Hoodies, t-shirts, hats and socks: they’re ideal for getting your brand out there. We merch lovers are all too willing to wear them and proudly display your name and logo when we’re out and about. Bonus points if they’re good quality!
Make it cool
There’s no denying it. Cool merch is always a winner. I’ve got a universal phone charger that rolls up like a seatbelt when I’m not using it and it works with iPhones and Samsung phones – so it’s nifty and useful.
But the coolest merch I’ve ever come across is what I like to call the swag that got away. They were at Xerocon last year and I sadly didn’t get a chance to stop by the stand to grab one. We’re talking retro-style branded yo-yos that light up when you use them. Now that is pretty cool.
What’s in store for AccountKit at Xerocon this year?
With all this talk of swag, it’d be remiss of me not to mention AccountKit’s plans for Xerocon this year. We’ll have Lindt Balls on offer as usual – so pop by when you’re in the mood for a sweet fix.
We’re also a silver exhibitor this year, which means we’ve got more space to offer up special goodies. Like all good surprises, I can’t reveal too much at the moment but be prepared for some exciting stuff and maybe even the chance to win a prize.
On a final note, I’d like to put it out there to everyone reading this: if you’ve got swag, send it to me! I’ll use it, I’ll wear it, and I’ll post it on social!
